"Jedi Knight Computers"

Of course the company name can be selected so as not to conflict with the copyright holders, negotiating, and licensing would be the first order of business, should the company decide to keep this name for business purposes. And to make things even easier the chosen name would be a DBA for the simple expedient of incorporating the owner's name,

Executive Summary

Jedi Knight Computers (Hereafter known as the company) Plans to open a business to be located currently at the principal owner's apartment, later can be relocated when convenient, now in Astoria Queens. The company will provide consulting to other businesses. This will be more of a theoretical consultancy then an actual seller of high-technology equipment, our function is more of answering questions for a price, thinking about them, then answering them for a bigger price. If the answer requires the purchase of such supplies, then we will, then assist them in the purchasing those specific goods, that are needed for the answer. The company would then supply appropriate training for the hardware purchased, and the software that would accompany such hardware. If anything specific is needed after the purchase is complete, such as writing the driver necessary for such hardware to work effectively, that would be included in the deal. Not as an added on cost, although if asked for much later, such as after my service contract had expired,  then  it would turn into an added on cost.

Target Market and Competition

Jedi Knight Computers will target small and medium-sized business currently located in the New York City area, including Westchester County, and to a limited extant the Long Island counties, whose activities fall between the spaces filled by the established System Integrators. For our current area of expertise, we do not have any real competition, which could prove to be a disadvantage on one side, on the other side, it would be an advantage, because we would then have plenty of business.

Pricing and Promotion and  implementation of contractual duties

Jedi Knight Computers would utilize the following sources, for promotion. That of Users Groups, that is of computer equipment, the Small Business Directories, that cover this specific region, even for the ultimate in strangeness, word of mouth. And for the ultimate in self-promotion, the World Wide Web, a web-site can be setup for very little money, now.

As far as pricing goes, we would utilize a mechanism created by the computer stores, that of making an estimate, when the customer and we sit down to discuss business. When reaching the implementation of contractual duties phase we would then begin providing an answer to their asked questions, that is a positive one, if it requires purchasing new equipment, then the final price for the answer would include the price for the new equipment, at a suitable markup of course. We would also mention that once the question was asked whether or not the answer includes new equipment, or not. If the answer is a yes, then we would ask what their current budget can cover, and specify what would then happen. The estimate would by the way, be folded into the complete price. An advance capable of covering what would be purchased, would then be requested. After the work gets completed, we would then present a bill, which would not mention the estimate, it would just list the advance if any, and a listing for services rendered, plus an automatic entry for a service contract, for no fee. It is necessary to build proper relations to provide such a function, most work provided for, from other companies request a fee for such a contract. Not with mine, the work is extremely sensitive, and equally important to both the client, and myself, that it would be good policy to include such a contract, woven into the work contract, the included service contract would run for the entire year, or more, depending on the nature of the business, that drew up the contract in the first place. The advance to buy the equipment by the way, would in all actuality be used not just for that purpose, it would also cover that particular service plan, for the entire year. If the client wants to purchase an entirely new service contract, at the end of the old one, then that one can be arranged for as well.

The novelty of such a business

There are sellers of computer equipment (actual computer systems, extras, supplies, other software) to be found everywhere, from Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, to even mail-order still. There are Manufacturer/Sellers of peripherals that do nearly everything these days, and there are manufacturers of industrial sensing equipment, for example, that can be connected to those peripherals to, again nearly everything. And there are the System Integrators who claim to do what we do, unfortunately, they don't, carefully, and thoroughly that is. The trade publications are full of such horror stories of such individuals simply selling the buyer his hardware, offering some help, on the software end, typically providing minimal assistance on the middle ground, that is making everything work out together. And the writer may even add, the computer chosen for the job typically started out working on a desk, before being remounted in its present housing, that is an industrial-safe one. All of this material, is documented, and readily available. But for the company's prices, and talent, you won't find anybody else out there.
